The Free State of Glory (Part 30): Worship God Alone

TEXT: Revelation 22:6-7

6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.

7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

The Free State of Glory (Part 29): Jesus is Coming Quickly. What Do We Do in the Meantime?

In these verses, John testifies to the truth of his revelation. He lived in a day when rogue writers were producing literature falsely attributed to the apostles of our Lord. Others were writing and distributing literature that purported to be part of divine revelation, but was nothing more than man’s imagination. John, the beloved disciple, wants his readers to know that he alone has seen and heard the Revelation of Jesus Christ and that he himself wrote down that message to give to the churches. So, he says, “I John saw these things and heard them.” We, too, live in a day when there is much false teaching under the guise of divine revelation. We must be careful that we only heed the words of Scripture and those whose message aligns with Scripture.

John, overwhelmed by the things he had witnessed in the Spirit, “fell down” at the feet of the angel who had shown him the visions, and began to worship. The angel, of course, refuses such worship telling him, “See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.” Dr. John Ellicott comments, “Wonder and awe took possession of John, and for the second time he was about to offer unlawful homage to the angel. This twice offered and twice refused worship is full of teaching. To render to all their due is wise, seemly, and Christ-like; but to offer exaggerated homage to any is to invert God’s order, and to degrade by pretending to exalt man, whose true glory is that he is God’s creation.”

We might consider such commands to worship only God the most out-of-date commands in the Bible. But, there is a lot of worship of “fellowservants” going on in the church today (not to mention the worship of celebrities, politicians, culture, and human pursuits that goes on in the world). Over 50 years ago, John Lennon declared that the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.” Well, the Beatles are gone and Jesus is still here. But there still seem to be some people who are vying to be “more popular than Jesus.” And, unfortunately, many in the church are facilitating this worship of man more than the Messiah.

If you want to be taken up in the rapture to live in Heaven with Christ and God, allow me to share with you how you can place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation from sin and the punishment of sin which is hell:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. God loves you. We love you. And may God bless you.
